This mix was not meant to be a proper mix of how loud the bass guitar SHOULD be on the album. The intent of this video was to show what the bass guitar sounds like in relation to the album audio, that we all have heard before. Since nobody had really heard much, or any, of the bass guitar in this song before, I thought it would be something people would enjoy hearing.

This was never meant to be a version of the song that you would download as an mp3 and play on your iPod (or whatever you've got). Its purpose was for comparison. I could just put up the bass track alone, but I think it means more with the album audio there to compare it to.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

-------------------------------------------

This is the original studio recording of Blackened with Jason Newsted's actual bass track re-dubbed at a MUCH higher level.

Two of the tracks from ...And Justice For All have been released as downloadable content for the band simulation game, Rock Band. I managed to [mostly] isolate the bass from those songs, and dubbed it over untouched album versions of the songs. The end result is finally, after nearly 20 years, being able to hear some of AJFA complete with Jason's bass CLEARLY audible in the mix.

I'm actually a little surprised that nobody has done this, yet. At least, I haven't been able to find anything related to it, yet.

I found the picture of the altered cover "...And Justice For JASON" using Google image search. I know there is already an entire version of the album entitled that, in which some guy recorded himself playing bass over the album, but I thought the name sounded appropriate for this.

That's fair and that's why i always asked myself why i could not hear the bass and Newsted's absolute talent.

The only good thing about the lack of bass in the ajfa is that bassist don't need to look for a backing track, just use the original ;)

I've listened to this record a milion times and i love it, but for last couple years while listening to metal records i was trying to seperate all instruments to hear each one of them. Today i put AJFA on my headphones and it hurted me so much that this LP has bass muted to complete 0, this record would be more powerful with bass in mix. Ajfa sounds sooo empty without bass :(

Super boulot j'adore ! Alors Lars ? je me souviens d'un concert à Paris avec Jason, sa basse claquait sévère par rapport à l'album plus dur en live de faire taire Jason...

Honestly I think it would have sounded better if the bass were softer, like to let the guitar be the sharp biting drive of the song and the bass to sorta be the low end "punctuation" of the note. I'm not familiar with bass guitar so I wouldnt be sure how that would be done, but I think maybe a bit of distortion, and some kind of fuzz effect combined with maybe the bass playing half time with fingers would do it. This is one of my favorite songs of all time but i've always felt the bass is lacking.

The MAIN curse is, and will always BE, the lack of Mustaine in the band. MEGADETH for LIFE... Lars is a POS. Wouldn't even sign my auto in Aspen when I was 16. WHAT A DB!!!!

If anyone ever questioned how badass this album is, keep in mind that Marshall was in the process of creating a pedal to duplicate the guitar distortion on this album but scrapped it due to balancing a budget for a new stack or some shit. I was excited as fuck when I heard this at like age 14 and never got to see it come true. Long live Metallica...

In Heavy Metal you can have beefed up guitars, that's fucking badass. But it's important and crucial to have the low end in the rhythm section. Bass guitar is just so cool and contributes more than is credited for.

Now it sounds complete, poor Jason. He is such a great bass player (Just listen to old Flotsam & Jetsam) and it's a shame they tuned him out of their music and this incredible album. Cliff would be pissed off at them for that, big time.

Too much bass? The louder bass makes the song CREEPIER if you ask me.
