This tune was recorded, in a different mode, in the 1930s by Jimmy Lunceford, as "Twenty Four Robbers."

That's debatable. Rufus and Carla's hit gave the company much needed capital to continue operating, but they would never have had the hit if there weren't a Stax Records in the first place. The founders of the company deserve the credit. It's not a chicken or the egg scenario. Besides, it was Estelle Axton who took a second mortgage on her home to start the company.

If it hadn't been for Rufus Thomas, there wouldn't have been a Stax Records. He and his daughter, Carla, gave the label its first hit, "Cause I Love You".

Rufus was a true ambassador of Memphis Music. One of my favorite memories of him was having lunch at Sun Studios Cafe. Over and over, we were interrupted by tourists wanting his picture or autograph. He graciously accommodated them all over and over. What a gentleman. Rufus - we love you. Thank you for being Rufus.

It was either 65 or 66. No idea of his age as I don't know much about him.

Either 66 or 65. Was never into Rufus Thomas at the time so don't know when he would have been singing this. Cathy McGowan was the compere in 65 and 66 so could have been either.

This was a long time ago. What is the year and how old was he? He looks very young!
