The song Good Morning Tucson is off my new album, Artificial Heart, produced by John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants and scheduled for release any second now. There's a long boring story about the many things going on behind the scenes as I move through the strange netherworld between album completion and album release. In one chapter of that story, I was on Cape Cod with my family, enjoying the beach and a lot of lobster rolls just prior to when everything started really churning. At that point, the plan was to release Good Morning Tucson as the first track shortly after my return to NYC. I thought it would be fun to have a video for it, but of course there I was on vacation with no video directors in sight. What I did have was a couple of iPhones, some duct tape, a kite, a rocket, an RC airplane, two children, a wife, a giant inflatable sphere, and a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta. Which was close enough, I figured.

You can take this as evidence of my efficiency and ability to multitask, or you can take it as an example of the many ways in which I often fail to draw a clear line between work and not-work. Mostly you can take it as a demonstration of what a FANTASTIC skim boarding technique I have, and how I need to lose about 15 pounds and maybe get a spray tan.

This song is obviously not about going to the beach. At least, it didn't used to be!

This video was edited by Chris Dillon, who also was the editor for my DVD, "Best. Concert. Ever."

As a person who lives in Tucson, I would love to see this as a show. With this song as the pilot show. Not the 2:41 minutes of glorious of the song, but stretched out to fill out a show.

Écoutais celle-ci en me dirigeant vers une entrevue radio. Très appropriée, comme chanson. Surtout le matin. Mais ce clip est encore plus réjouissant. On y remarque cette tranquille joie de vivre qui donne à JoCo tant de présence.

watching this reminds me how awesome it would be to spend a day with JoCo. We'd have to watch out for the cast of Glee trying to mug him though...

He should have taken a leaf from Soterios' book and danced his stress away.

As a mom, and a HUGE JoCo fan, the couple of shots of him in the hammock with (I assume) his kids just melt my heart and bring a smile to my face. Especially when he's laughing. *d'aww*

Please don't start that debate, people disagree and then they get sad :( My point is that his site isn't 'corporate' in any way. He distributes the music that he spends a long time writing and performing. He charges $1 per song (less for whole albums, I think!) and the money goes to him (No corporations!) so he can write and perform music for us all to enjoy! He works very hard to write and play his music, we all enjoy it, so it's polite to say thank you :) His hard earned wages depend on us!

I prefer to think this is about a morning show host who summons Zalgo during his bit and rips into the space between the walls, tearing the world apart.

It's amazing what Jonathan Coulton has accomplished, not only has he made music at an astounding rate, the fact that something like thing a week is even possible is pretty amazing, and he never sold out, but he hit it big without whoring himself to the music industry or changing his style, that is amazing to me, and if this starts a trend and other musicians can succeed in a similar fashion than the future looks bright.
