I like the Jesus in this, but to no one will outmatch the great Ted Neeley at the part. It's simply breathtaking every time he delivers "Gethsemane", and to be able to hit a G5 at 71.... and yes I've heard of falsetto, but for Ted it just comes natural.

I was fortunate to see it with the original cast twice circa '72. The 1st time at Cincinnati Music Hall, the 2nd time in Cleveland.And, I also saw Clapton with Yvonne Elliman singing back-up.

Somehow I ended up with the 1971/Fenholt album when I was in Jr. High, instead of the "brown version." Like Naomi, I still dream of having been able to see this version live; I still think it's better.

Thank you for posting this. Superstar, Tommy, hair, Pink Floyd and I may be leaving someone out. These are not just albums they are a piece of history that won't be replicated ever again. Tell me one album today that will still be around 40 years from now. I am so glad that this music was a part of my life and youth as they still bring a little happiness into my life now.

Bette Middler almost got to play Mary Magdalene on broadway (she gave something like five auditions). She lost the part because the director wanted to keep as many people from the original studio cast recording as possible.
