JAWBONE

The Band

The Band (1970)

Oh, Jawbone, when did you first go wrong?

Oh, Jawbone, where is it you belong?

Three time looser, you'l never learn,

Lay down your tools before you burn.

Ya keep on runnin' and hidin' your face,

spreadin' your heat all over the place.

I'm a thief and I dig it!

I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!

I'm a thief and I dig it!

Oh, Jawbone, why don't cha sit and moan?

Oh, Jawbone, you know that it's stone for stone.

Sneak through the night upon your toes,

To look in your eye, it never shows.

Your name upon the post office wall,

Put you on edge 'cause they wrote it too small!

I'm a thief and I dig it!

I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!

I'm a thief and I dig it!

Oh, Jawbone, revenge stays on your mind.

Oh, Jawbone, you been doin' too much time.

Pull off a job with an inside man,

who needs the cash and likes your plan.

Then you will know just who to thank,

when you land right back in the tank.

I'm a thief and I dig it!

I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!

I'm a thief and I dig it!

Oh, Jawbone, why dont'cha go home?

Oh, Jawbone, where is it you belong?

Boostin' and goin' out on the lam,

Ya know that you'll steal anything that you can.

Temptation stands just behind the door,

So what you wanna go and open it for?

I'm a thief and I dig it!

I'm up on a beef, I'm gonna rig it!

I'm a thief and I dig it!

"I'm a fiend and I dig it"! You can't say fairer than that.

one of the best 3 part harmonies that ever hit the scene. its just too bad Robbie Robertson had to be part of it. rip Richard, ricky, and levon. heres to hoping that garth out lives the man responsible for breaking up the band

One of the most intriguing and eccentric songs I've ever heard, and the time changes are amazing.

One of my 'The Band' faves (if not all of them). The beginning sounds like a flashback 100 years on a Victrola phonograph somewhere in Appalachia. Dylan & The Band were so artistic with time travel.

Hmmmmm..... that's funny. Have you noticed that most of The Band's most eccentric & musically advanced tracks list Manuel as a writer?

Does this make sense to anyone besides me? I get it, and think it sounds cool, but for some reason whenever I play this people think I'm trolling them! DOESN'T ANYONE GET THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

definitely richard... I had trouble telling the difference between the two at first for a while too. if you type in "who was lead singer in band songs" or some variation into google... there is a site that lists every song and it's lead singer.

I LOVE how loose and kind of discombobulated that first "Oh, Jawbone" sounds. It just gets me when it then comes together perfectly.

there's only a few songs that can sound like a nice, gritty, rock song and have the cool, nerdy timing changes as well. This song is one of them

I think you need to listen a bit more carefully to Rick and Levon.to suggest that rick only has moments is crazy. Richard is definitely the most accomplished of them but Rick has this presence to his voice where he can get in front of the audience and make it so that not a single person isn't listening to him, yet he'll make you feel like he's your friend, even though you've never met him. And c'mon now, evangeline and dixie are the only levon songs you like?
