Totally agree with Stoneman. Mr Davey had a special magic.

In 1293,.. his nose guard would have cost equally as much as his helmet. What an epic dude tho... I',m a good Hawkwind fan and I think he's the best... ever.

I agree. I saw them recently, and although Mr Dibs is doing his level best, he's no Alan Davey. Not by a long chalk. But a more pertinent point is when you watch Hawkwind WITH Alan Davey, you don't find yourself wishing it was Lemmy. Well at least I never did. Lemmy had to leave or there'd be no Motorhead[!], and Alan is the man I grew up watching at Hawkwind concerts. He's my all time Hawkwind bass player for that reason. The only men this band desperately misses are Robert Calvert and HLL.

While I still like Lemmy better, Davey's a great bassist and you're right - he has his own style, though it is Lemmy influenced. And besides, what's wrong with being influenced by Lemmy?

yeah but the world received Motorhead because of it. Now thats 2 awesome bands

I saw this lineup in 2001, in Edinburgh. They played this song and it was superb. One of the best gigs I have been to, and a great line-up that is highly versatile. Alan Davey is the longest serving bassist that has flown with Hawkwind, and while clearly heavily influenced by Lemmy he is his own bassist with his own, very powerful, style. Personally, I feel he is the best bassist that has been in the band. They've had a few!

i dont think for one minute that Alan Davey is trying to emulate Lemmy ... at this point Alan just so happened to play bass in the band

Nah, not really. The Calvert years which followed were fantastic.
