Number 2 UK Charts April 1953

Times were difficult in the UK in the aftermath of the Second World War.Guy Mitchell's breezy happy style went down well with the British. This probably explains why he was more popular in the UK than in the US

Don't forget the great Barry Alldis on the Luxembourg Top 20 show. I also used to listen to it under the sheets! I also used to write down the top 20 in a notebook every week. Wish I'd kept it!

1953 and the BBC was giving us Billy Cotton and Edmundo Ross. "Good" old Auntie was run by a bunch of controllers who reminded me of the masters I fell out with at school. Just as I left school to get away from them so I switched to Radio Luxembourg. Pete Murray and Jack Jackson, giving us the Top 20 (at 11pm which meant an under the coivers job) with the originals from Guy and Frankie. Ah - 208 medium wave! And now I can listen to it on You Tube. But not under the covers. Life begins at 75.

My two favorite singers were more popular in the U.K than here in the U.S. Frankie Laine and Guy Mitchell.
