"What Will I Tell My Heart?"

Music by Peter Tinturin

Lyrics by Jack Lawrence

Performed by Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians

Vocal refrain by Carmen Lombardo

Recorded February 2, 1937

Victor 25526

Guy Lombardo began his musical career in 1924 in his native London, Ontario; with brothers Lebert, Carmen and Victor, he formed a big dance band. Originally, Guy was a violinist, but he soon became the band's leader and conductor. The Royal Canadians' slogan was "The Sweetest Music This Side of Heaven" -- and by 1930, the group was America's top dance band.

@Crockerish When I first started collecting 78s in the 1960s, the Lombardo Orchestra was still quite active. Although it wasn't "cool" to be a Lombardo fan back then, I was amazed they had such a long career and I became particularly interested in their early stuff from the 1920s and 1930s.

@bsgs98 Yes, you're right. My favourite period- for music as well as well as movies, is the 1930's - though I was born in the late 40's and have an affection for the music of the late 50's and into the 60's as well- the music of my mis-spent youth- but it sure was fun while it lasted. Thanks for writing back. -Bill

@baghend That's what is so great about YouTube. You can always find great stuff and other people that share your interests. I am particularly fond of the Royal Canadians and most music from between 1920 to 1935.

hey- how come every great tune on this site- (and I love every one you have) seems to have your name on it? We must be on the same wavelength and I'm sure many others are. Thanks so much for all your work in posting the Lombardo's- always my favourite among so many great bands. -Bill

@roybo1930 Lombardo's style is easily recognizable. It didn't change much over the years.

This is just BEAUTIFUL! This sounds somewhat like his early Brunswick recordings.

unfortunately, none of the Lombardo brothers are living. Their sister Rose-Marie, who sang with the band in the 40's, is still alive, as far as I know. She began her singing carreer at 16 y.o. She lives in Akron OH.
