Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians

Vocal refrain by Carmen Lombardo

Recorded March 11, 1930

Guy Lombardo was the leader of probably the most commercially successful dance band of all time and active for more than 40 years. The band was named Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians. The Lombardo Brothers, Guy, Carmen, and Lebert formed the band as youngsters in Canada and Guy was installed as leader. By 1925, they played vaudeville in Cleveland appearing at Lake Road Inn and other spots in the area. Next to New York then to Chicago followed by active recording for Columbia, Brunswick, Victor and Decca. Carmen wrote many of the arrangements, played lead saxophone and was principle vocalist. Brother Lebert was lead trumpet and brother Victor who joined the band in the early 1930s played baritone sax and flute.

The funny thing is, I have friends who were "young" then, and their parents and grandparents complained about that obnoxious racket known as "Guy Lombardo And His Royal Canadians." Music that was sure to corrupt a good mind :)

Para mi gusto, todo va muy bien hasta cuando comienza a cantar. ¿Es posible hallarle con otro cantante, o solo?

Too bad it's hard to find music today that can be this heartfelt and complex. This was a special time in history for music. Instead the Nicki Minajes and Justin Biebers are what we settle for today.

What a "sweet" Cottage, it's a shame to sell it in a Depressed Market of l930 .....nicely done.

Trombonology Erstwhile

Beautiful treatment of another of Willard Robison's many bucolic gems. The guitar and the harmonization of the reeds just make this arrangment. The pix, too, are perfect.
