As Long as He Needs Me is a torch song sung by the character of Nancy in the musical Oliver, introduced in the 1960 musical and sung originally by Georgia Brown, who was the first actress to play Nancy. It is a love ballad expressing Nancy's love for her criminal boyfriend Bill Sikes, despite his mistreatment of her. It is Brown's voice that is heard on both the original West End and Broadway cast recordings. Enjoy!

The best! I find those who say she sings it without emotion incomprehensible. Still, takes all sorts...

My favourite version of this song - and the only one sung in a genuine cockney accent (I should know, being a cockney myself).

I saw Georgia Brown in Oliver in maybe '65 and she was beyond thrilling. I mean, like, really, really wonderful.

My parents saw "Oliver" in London with the original cast. Their glowing reviews told me all I needed to know about Georgia Brown's Nancy. I'll wager none of the critics even got a t-shirt ! I heard from two people who had been there and heard that !

Steve, perhaps it sounds so slooooooooooow and drawwwwwwwwwwwwn out and like it's crawling at a damaged snails pace is because she HAS just had the crap beaten out of her.

nah too slow and not a patch on jodie prenjer or shani wallis or kerry ellis. Sounds too sloooow and drawwwwwnnnn out.....it labours and limps like a a snail with a damaged shell.....I know Gorgia recorded this even before Shani did the movie but its just so boring to listen to its not the best at all.....she sounds like she is singing for toffee instead of with the emotion of a young woman who has had a crap life and whose BF beats the crap out of her.

This and Magical Mystery Tour were the first two albums I ever heard and I asked my parents to play them over and over. I practically had this one memorized. When I was three I met 10 year old half brother for the first time when he came out to visit my Dad. The first thing I said to him was, "Are you Oliver?" My family still laughs about that.

I always find it so interesting when people can remember anything when they were two and three. Remembering a song is an amazing thing.
