This live session from the First Light CD was originally broadcast on BBC Radio and rebroadcast on Top Of The Pops show presented by Brian Matthew. I created a stereo sound track from the original mono track, expanded the dynamic range and remastered it for best possible sound.I hope you enjoy this version of this hit song that was the birth ELO!

ELO Rocks, and I've loved them since their beginning. So exciting that Jeff Lynne will be receiving a Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame soon. This is one of my favorite songs!

EXCELLENT CONVERSION

Having seen vids of them performing live in 1972, I can scarcely believe that this is really live. It sounds like the studio track with some different vocals. I doubt they could have put a performance of this calibre together live at the time.

10538 Overture was an idea that Jeff (Lynne) brought along to the studio which was originally to be a Move track. After recording the basic backing track, the other guys went home, leaving Jeff and myself to run riot with the overdubs. At the time, I was very keen on collecting instruments, and had just acquired a cheap Chinese cello. After we had finished overdubbing the guitars, I sat in the control room trying out this cello and sort of messing around with Jimi Hendrix type riffs. Jeff said, 'That sounds great, why don't we throw it on the track.' I ended up recording around fifteen of these, and as the instrumentation built up, it was beginning to sound like some monster heavy metal orchestra. In fact, it sounded just bloody marvellous.— Roy Wood , March 28, 2006 - No Answer RemasterI had this guitar track, like a real big riff on a guitar. I laid it down in the studio and Roy Wood got his cello, his Chinese cello, and he overdubbed about fifteen cello riffs, just double tracking all the time-- and it sounded fantastic. We thought, it was like 'Wow!' and we just sat round playing it for days.— Jeff Lynne , July 31, 2006 - The Harvest Years 1970-1973 liner notes

Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood formed ELO, as a result of the sound the Beatles achieved on songs such as I am the Walrus and Strawberry Fields Forever, which mixed classical instruments with rock instruments. Jeff Lynne has gone on record as saying I Am the Walrus is his favourite record. As for the pig masks in this video, in the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, one of the Beatles wears a pig mask on I am the Walrus 10538 Overture is a really good record.

Sounding great through my hifi system even without the woofer turned on. Check out Roy Wood on the left man of many characters and talent. For the uninformed he later formed the band Wizzard who had quite a few big hits in the early 70s with See my baby jive, wish it could be xmas, etc and a great Rock and Roll revival LP titled Eddie and the Falcons fantastic albumt that was if your into 50s stuff. He did quite a few solo gems too like Dear Elaine.

There's a few comments about various aspects of the song being a homage to The Beatles, but I'm also guessing the video is a tribute to the A Day In The Life video, especially the pig masks!
