Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed is a song from David Bowie's 1969 album Space Oddity. It contains a mix of folk, balladry, and prog rock. Held to be "the first Bowie album proper", and his first deemed worthy by record companies of regular reissue, Space Oddity featured a notable list of collaborators, including session players Herbie Flowers, Tim Renwick, Terry Cox, and Rick Wakeman, as well as cellist Paul Buckmaster, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tony Visconti, and bassist John Lodge.

"Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed" reflected a strong Bob Dylan influence,[4] with its harmonica, edgy guitar sound and snarling vocal.

"Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed" is a song written by David Bowie in 1969 for the album Space Oddity. The song starts out floatingly with Bowie's 12-string acoustic guitar, which was much used by Bowie in this period and also heard on other songs of the Space Oddity album. It soon moves into a more heavy country rock style with heavy rhythm and harmonica solos.

Bowie played this song at "The Sunday Show" introduced by John Peel February 2, 1970. The show was broadcast on February 8 and in 2000 released on Bowie at the Beeb.

The Pic is all wrong. That's Bowie as "The Thin White Duke" circa 1975 - a good five years after this song was recorded. This song is an homage to Bob Dylan. Most people today do not know how much the young Bowie revered and was influenced by Dylan. Bowie even has a cut called "Song for Bob Dylan" on 1971's Hunky Dory album

Always wished he'd stop the heavy country bit after about 4 mins and reprise the start or something. The start is fabulous and criminally short. The heavy country bit is nice but outstays its welcome. Get to itching for some more ethereal 12-string and ethereal vocal....
