Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

Hey there, Mister Black Man can you hear me?

I don't want your diamonds or your game

I just want to be, someone known to you as me

and I will bet my life you want the same

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

Seven hundred million are you listening?

Most of what you read is made of lies

But speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's sun

To wake to in the morning when we rise?

So come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

Brother Solzhenitsyn are you busy?

If not would you drop a friend a line?

Tell me if the man, who is plowing up your land

has got the war machine upon his mind

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

That we, the people here, don't want a war

Now no doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle

Like presidents, prime ministers and kings

So let's build them shelves where they can fight among themselves

and leave the people be who like to sing

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

That we the people here, don't want a war

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

That we the people here, don't want a war

Freedom!

Freedom!

Freedom!

One of the best songs( and messages of the 60's) Bobby knew he hadn't much time, but still he poured his heart out for what he believed. Yes Bobby, we're still listening .

we the people don't want obama continuing bush's illegal wars and we don't want obama's illegal drone campaign of mass murder. all US presidents are war criminals.

And by 1991, it had all been forgotten. We wasted it all.

Bobby Darin's whole life changed and this was his beginning of change. One of the best songs from back that I still sing. I'll be 60 odd this year.

In Bobby Darin's own words, "I urge you never ever, ever let them take away your freedom". I urge you to fight for what is right and what you believe is right. War is not the answer people. Governments need to stop sending young people to die all because they think it's a good thing. Yea right, NOT!!!!!! Bobby was the man with a vision and I know that had he lived a longer life things would have been different because of his courage, determination, and not willing to back down. Bobby, a man before his time in every way. Loved and missed still. RIP BOBBY !!!!!

At the time he sang this, he was a slick Vegas performer, whose audience supported the war. Which was not only unjustified, but involved the draft. So it wasn't simply a topic for political discussion. It was life and death or damage for many, many guys out there. So to then hear a song of support of such passion from a star like Bobby, who was saying that he was supporting us instead of the establishment that he was performing for, and with such a passion, said a lot, and meant a lot.And he put on a hell of a show, too.

Now if we could only stop the war of the 1% and their media, politicians, and corporations being waged inside the U.S. against the 99% of average citizens, aided by the ignorance they reinforce that opposes universal health care, educational opportunities, employment to restore our destroyed infrastructure -- America as our democracy, not the world empire of the greedy indifferent to violence against exploited countries worldwide.

Back in the 1960s he caught a lot of flak for this song, all sorts of trouble. He wrote it and he meant it. Some of us show our emotions more than others.
