Bobby was the man with a vision and I know that had he lived a longer life things would have been different because of his courage, determination, and not willing to back down. At the time he sang this, he was a slick Vegas performer, whose audience supported the war. Which was not only unjustified, but involved the draft. So it wasn't simply a topic for political discussion. It was life and death or damage for many, many guys out there. So to then hear a song of support of such passion from a star like Bobby, who was saying that he was supporting us instead of the establishment that he was performing for, and with such a passion, said a lot, and meant a lot.And he put on a hell of a show, too.
