I never experienced it first hand though my dad was a poker machine technician and I used to spend weekend bonding time with him occasionally driving from club to club and thanks to that I never became a gambling addict. If only he took me to porn theatres and pub-rock circuit pubs at that age.

These lyrics are a scarily true insight into poker machine addiction, and capture the moment brilliantly if not for such a terrible problem it would be a masterpiece song. I have known friends past and present who have suffered, and dealt with my own problems. Yes this song does get me teary eyed.

LOL the comments below are insane, this song was basically a tribute to Andy Lewis after he committed suicide because of gambling addictions, and to point out the absolute waste land that venues with poker machines/casion's have created.6% of taxes raised due to gambling goes to supporting "problem gamblers" but still creates a nice windfall for government. Farking insanity, but money is more important than anything else including lives

Social problem? It's called greed.

Gambling in any facet or mode is wrong and the only winners are the administrators and owners of these defrauding, hope inspiring, money sucking machines. I've seen families lose everything based on the hope of winning. No better than the lottery. I wonder what percentage actually reaches those in need, who by the way are probably destitute because of this intangible hope. Shut it down or run it as non profit, managed by a board of philanthropists

Its funny to read an idiots view on a social problem. Dave gambling is a social problem. Im guessing your a teenager with such a lack of insight. A gambling addiction leads to theft, drug use, homelessness which by definition are social issues.... you need to grow up, I'm going easy on you as I'm sure you are just getting your first wet dream.

Gambling... Its not a problem that society has to deal with... It's a personal problem. Deal with it and stop whining. Still love this song though.

Dad, this was written for you, I'm sure. It gives me chills whenever I hear it, always makes me think of you; the day you lost all your life savings while I sat 9 hrs waiting in the car for you. I miss you Dad, I wish- I wish I knew the right words, to make you feel better...walk out of this place..Love you, R.I.P B.J Anderson x

Sure, lets just band everything, bad food (what I consider bad naturally) coffee, lets see, smoking that has to go, you know what? skateboarding! very dangerous and addicting ruining the kid lives lets ban that, let me think of some other things that I personally don't like hence can dictate to other people...

If you close the pokies where will people go? Home and watch telly? No, they'll go to the TAB. Or spend more on lotto and keno. Or at roulette and blackjack at the casinos. It is idiotic to talk about banning one form of gambling only. Either you ban all or none of it. Most of us gamble in moderation and would we be pissed off with any government that tried to ban it? You bet. If a minority can't control themselves, it isn't right that the rest be punished. Treat the addicts, that's all.
