Billy Joe Shaver performs "I'm Just an Old Chunk, But I'm Gonna Be a Diamond Someday" live at the Farm Aid concert in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 18, 1994. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help — what can you do?

Eddy is my all-time guitar hero. I saw him play all around Texas probably 25 times in 80's and 90's, most recently '99. The most creative style and best tone ever to hit my ears, not to mention being a very approachable nice guy. Just a guitar/cable/amp without any effects. It's all in the mind, heart and fingers. To this day I can't pick up a guitar without thinking of him. Hopefully someday in my lifetime Strat players will stop imitating (actually butchering) the great Stevie Ray's licks and tone. Makes me sick. Listen to Eddy and understand what a homegrown innovative style can bring to the game.

Thank you for this posting!!!! I feared that there was not any good video of Eddy and his father when they were cooking with gas, but thank God there is. I will never get that tone Eddy had out of my head. Put that with Billy Joe's words and I don 't think there will ever be anything that comes close to it again. I hope one day to meet up with Eddy again. May God rest your soul Eddy Shaver and May God keep Billy Joe strong nit the day he calls him home.

Fabulous performance of a great song with Eddie Shaver's incredible picking. Eddie's death in 2000 was a stunning loss.
