NOT THE UNION

OUR UNION

""""""""""""""

There is power in a factory, power in the land

Power in the hands of a worker

But it all amounts to nothing if together we don't stand

There is power in a Union

Now the lessons of the past were all learned with workers' blood

The mistakes of the bosses we must pay for

From the cities and the farmlands to trenches full of mud

War has always been the bosses' way, sir

The Union forever defending our rights

Down with the blackleg, all workers unite

With our brothers and our sisters from many far off lands

There is power in a Union

Now I long for the morning that they realise

Brutality and unjust laws can not defeat us

But who'll defend the workers who cannot organise

When the bosses send their lackies out to cheat us?

Money speaks for money, the Devil for his own

Who comes to speak for the skin and the bone

What a comfort to the widow, a light to the child

There is power in a Union

The Union forever defending our rights

Down with the blackleg, all workers unite

With our brothers and our sisters together we will stand

There is power in a Union.

I just watched the movie, PRIDE, for the first time this afternoon and was blown away. I had never heard of it before having it recommended by Netflix. This was the powerful and moving music for the closing sequence which tells what happened to some of those whose stories were told in the relating of this true story. I was the beneficiary of being a union member during my 40 years working for the railroad, as the last few years were quite unpleasant. My heartfelt thanks go to my former General Chairman Brian O'Reilly for all his assistance in helping me keep my job until my retirement. Watch this movie as it is terrific!

What needs to happen is the union movement spread to the developing world so they get a fairer deal and we get more jobs.

I used to sit as a kid, (possibly nine or ten) and listen to this song and the album on my brothers Hi Fi, I'm not sure if it's solely responsible for my leftie tendencies but it started it.

No, they didn't. What actually caused it was the US Government following the policies socialists had been crying out for, demanding that loans for houses be extended to people who couldn't afford the repayments - and promising to revoke their licences if they didn't comply. You might say the banks were stupid for going along with that, but that's putting the cart before the horse. Big government created this problem. Bigger government isn't going to solve it.

FINAL SOLUTION? nice choice of words, and that 2008 financial crash was obviously caused by the workers, if only we had deregulated the markets more the Invisible Hand of The Market would have saved us all from the workers looting the company store. please go swallow a knife.

Thinking of all our brothers and sisters who died in the clothes factory in Bangladesh. There's still so much to be done.
