Al Jolson (May 28, 1886 -- October 23, 1950) was an American singer, comedian and actor. In his heyday, he was dubbed "The World's Greatest Entertainer"
"By The Light of the Silvery Moon" is a popular song.
The music was written by Gus Edwards, the lyrics by Edward Madden. The song was published in 1909 and introduced on the Broadway stage by Lillian Lorraine. It was one of a series of moon related Tin Pan Alley songs of the era.

How do you figure he wasn't racist? He did blackface, blackface is a sterotype of Black people. Isn't that racist in itself? It doesn't matter if he had Black friends, or was allowed in Black clubs. The reason why that doesn't matter is because people can associate with someone that's a racist AND if the majority of all white entertainers at the time were racists maybe they saw Al as less racist.
