Can't say I agree with not playing in front of the beat. I do think most playing should be on the beat, but leading the beat can actually make a song sound better when used the right way and done intentionally. Its actually something some genres of music are defined by

I don't know, I really liked the "no melody" solo, the other one was nice, but this one was more intricate and interesting to play, I enjoyed it more than the other one..and the "no dynamics" solo was nice as well..like one of the oher comments said, it depends on what are you playing and how do you want to play it

Wouldn't vibrato partly depend on the genre? When it comes to jazz guitar, vibrato is either subtle or non-existent. I've also noticed David Gilmour, especially when using a tremolo, makes his vibrato a bit slower.

i've been playing two years and I've really caught myself trying to find short cuts, and I've watched my creativity atrophy as a result. Truthfully, as far as I can tell, it seems like your creativity or as I call it guitar "Swag" requires upkeep above all. And its the most fun to do anyways! I found myself forgetting that some of the most beautiful music I've heard is pretty god damn simple...

I actually liked some of the sound you got when playing with "poor" pitch control. Maybe it's not appropriate for all styles of music, but that kind of cracked out dissonance worked for me in a way.

Im confused on exactly what an artificial harmonic is. Is it the same as pinch harmonics?

Mr. Ben Higgins if u have the time can u explain how to soloing clear? I can't mute properly while soloing? What is the secret? The thumb? And how? Or it is the fretting hand? Or both? Thank you in advance, u are truly a badass guitarist and composer.

Great playing and dug your lesson on vibrato, but as I've gotten older I see vibrato as more of an effect and I prefer not to have it 'on' all the time and when I do, I prefer it more subtle than most. I love the tension that some notes have the move in and just die out with sustain. I think I may be the only one though. I mean, I agree, no one should have vibrato off pitch or out of time, I just disagree that "no vibrato" is necessarily a bad thing.

Ben, on number 4, if I could ever play those scales with the speed and execution you did, I surely would not feel like it is a problem.

The first "wrong" bend you were trying to do actually sounds cool, like a exotic Marty Friedman bend!
