by your logic, all electronic music is lacking in music's auditory qualities since it's made using computers, despite computer and synth technology being able to make just about any sound, and therefore any song. you seem to have a problem with the method of creative expression and therefore try to belittle it by claiming it isn't pure music. your misgivings of using other tech to create sound have no bearing on creativity or the ability to make use of all the qualities of sound that make music.

To say because computers and synths are used so therefore the music is 'lacking in many categories' is just nonsense. much popular 80's music used synths, almost exclusively, so is that somehow lacking too? and why in your mind does physically playing an instrument have exclusivity in making melody and harmony when the same can be done using other tech? after all, ultimately, while the creative process is different, the final sound output isn't. in many ways, hip hop producers are one man bands.

whether sounds are made from pcs, synths and drum machines, or from ppl playing actual instruments makes no difference in terms of the things that constitute music, like rhythm, pitch, etc. to say hip hop is a lonesome drumbeat is to be ignorant of the diversity of sounds in the genre. besides, producers like timbaland physically play synths to get their sounds, so it technically is an instrument making varied sounds. all multi layered, just as any other music is. try again.

You want one. Music is all a matter of opinion and taste, like food or whom you date/love, its going to be up to you in what you like and dislike. Music uses sounds and silence to create rhythm (tempo, articulation, meter), pitch (melody, harmony) dynamics, and qualities of timbre (what produces the sound) and texture (harmonic, rhythmic, melodic range and depth). Hip hop produces rhythm and has timbre from a computer (mad beats yo), therefore it is lacking in many of the categories of music. :p

so if rap isn't music, than what is it? is it not a structured collection of sound? why does it matter if the instrumentals are either sampled or made by computer? it's still structured sound that serves a musical purpose, right? beatmakers are still expressing their musical creativity regardless of whether they are physically playing instruments. and in some cases they do play their own instruments, like The Roots. you don't have to like rap, but stop being so close minded.

In my opinion...metal will never replicate the amazing sound and production values as this album has...every song is fucking brutal as fuck...easily my favorite album and band...although i do thing Aeon was great, it definitely didn't match this album adn Disintegrate was lesser than Aeon...I highly recommend getting their Storm Detonation DVD...almost every song from this album is on it and it has high production value \m/
