I saw Felix at the New Jersey State Theatre this Sunday in New Brunswick. Wonderful show and yes he was on that B-3. I swear I couldn't find that Leslie Tone Cabinet on the stage but I could hear it.

Dino studied with Krupa...Gene's "freeze beat" as in "Leave Us Leap" (old record) is paid tribute here by Dino, complete with stick twirling (which Krupa also did). Actually, you can see/hear "Leave Us Leap" here on YT.

These guys really rocked, too bad they wore those stupid outfits no doubt forced upon them by their record company.

Along with Eric Burdon & The Animals and The Righteous Brothers - the most authentic black-sounding white guys of the 1960s. They called it "Blue-Eyed Soul.

I don't think Dino was trying to copy Moon. They became known to American audiences almost around the same time, and the Rascals were far better known than the Who at this time. Dino had actually played jazz before he joined the Rascals (including some time with Count Basie, if I recall correctly), so he was more akin to aggressive New York drummers like Carmine Appice (who came a bit later) than him. Lots of rock drummers either came from jazz or idolized jazz players (Mitch Mitchell, anyone?). Rock drumming didn't develop in a vacuum. As a matter of fact, Moon got his double bass drum idea from Ginger Baker, who was considered primarily a jazz drummer at the time; and Louis Bellson had double bass drums years before. Moon was certainly flamboyant and talented, but he was not the progenitor of flashy style. Look at Gene Krupa!

That energizer tambourine guy with the maracas really adding a signature look to this song's performance on all the TV shows back when. The costumes and hair is really forced, isn't it. Hahah. I can hear the conversation when they called in the trendy cloners to come up with a Beatles look, only different. Trouble is it really works, which goes contrary to any sensibility I have as an artist. Different times, and a testament to the lad's punch. Great song. Fantastic pop stars. Gotta dance!

Dino was definitely one of the best Rock drummers of the 60's, but the chicken-neck thing is way too much.

I swear, every time I hear that Hammond B-3 screaming I get goose pimples, Damn. Then I hear and see Dino on the drums, Mercy Jesus.
