Jon Anderson und seine britische Progressiv/ Artrockband Yes live am 29.11.1969 im Beat Club!

"Yes" is one of the archetypal English bands in the genre of the progressive rock/ artrock. They were also noted for the high-pitched vocals of lead singer Jon Anderson and several famous band members as Rick Wakeman (keyboards), Steve Howe (guitar) and Bill Bruford (drums) during the last 40 years. The song "No Opportunity ..." is taken from the second album "Time And A Word" which features a more psychedelic sound before turning to real progressive rock with "The Yes Album", "Fragile" and their most important work "Close To The Edge". At the end of the 1970s Anderson collaborate with Greek musician Vangelis (Blade Runner) as Jon & Vangelis for several albums, producing the hits "I Hear You Now" and "I'll Find My Way Home".

I haven't heard Black Pyramid yet, but I have heard new bands like Buffalo Killers, Black Mountain, etc. Some of them are very good indeed, some sound like they're trying too hard. I will give Pyramid a shot!

Go to All That is Heavy Store. All new fuzzed out stoner/doom metal that rocks. Vinyl and CDs I just bought 600 of colored vinyl from them and Im not a teenager im 50. Rock on. Check out Electric Wizard, Black Pyramid and Orchid for starters. Maybe some Fu Manchu or Blood Ceremony. Don't let the satanic imagery turn you off bands from the late 60s early 70s used to have witches cast spells on the master tapes before cutting the records.

I love the way that your only defence is a null response. Anyways, I re-discovered some good modern prog. that probably more within your genre range than mastodon. /watch?v=hgXapx43nGs Enjoy!

I stand by what I said. I've found many great acts in the last few years, because I got tired of listening to the same old same old. First of all, I never said there were scores of bands/artists pushing themselves, striving to be a top-notch progressive (or pick your genre) musician, with goals of only challenging themselves to be better. That IS a lot more uncommon today. I didn't say they were plentiful, but to deny they are out there, just proves you aren't looking for them all that hard.

If I stepped out of the 18th century and into the 60's and 70's and proclaimed how mozart is pure genius compared to this new "rock and roll nonsense," then I think many would be quick to say that I should be more patience and open-minded. Do you not think the same thing just might apply here too?

I think there are moder bands which can manage what is witnessed here, its just they are alot harder to find, alot less popular and in less accessible genres. Good and bad music exists in every era, if you are patient and open-minded enough to try it out, even though the style and influences are totally different. Try listening to the track The Last Baron by Mastodon all the way through at least once. /watch?v=4pvfQtUhtNE

Thanks for saying that. I'm so sick and tired of people whining about how music sucks today. What they are referring to, is today's pop music. OF COURSE it sucks! Good rock is still around, but it's not the mainstream any more. Blame MTV, poor record company & radio promotion, and a HUGE GLUT of American Idol wannabes turning popular music into an embarrassment! But nonetheless, there IS great music to be found! You just have to do the looking. No one's serving it up on a platter any more.

Sure, there are tons of new bands. Some good, some hideous. But times have changed and so have human beings. The influences from society are not the same, thus we can't repeat the innovation of the '60s and '70s. We can "pretend" to repeat it but it's not genuine. There are great bands like The Caesars who sound like they came straight out of 1967 and I love them and bands like them, but they are a small faction of the whole music scene nowadays.
