Yello's sound is mainly characterized by unusual music samples, a heavy reliance on rhythm and Dieter Meier's dark voice. Boris Blank has taken a couple of vocal turns; on "Swing" (from You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess) and "Blazing Saddles" (from Flag), and guest vocalists have included Rush Winters (the first female diva to be featured on a Yello recording), Billy MacKenzie, Stina Nordenstam, Jade Davies and Shirley Bassey. The group has shared writing credit with MacKenzie and Winters. Yello rarely uses samples from previously released music; nearly every instrument has been sampled and engineered by Boris Blank, who over the years has built up an original sample library of over 100,000 named and categorized sounds.[6]

The music is composed by Boris Blank, who considers himself a perfectionist. When the tracks are mostly finished, Dieter Meier adds the vocal parts when fitting.

Played my copy, bought in '90 after hearing it at a HiFi-show, just this evening. As stated earlier in the comments, for me as well, this a desert-island album. Or, one chosen at gunpoint when demanded to choose 10 vinyl albums. It's also so much better than - ducks for the flamethrowers - their other albums. As if al their ideas culminated in this album, never to be surpassed.

You can play this today (2018) and it still sounds like new "fresh" music. Stands the test of time.

This is just so perfect. I love it. This is one of the few songs that creates a image in your imagination of a place very different than where you are. I used to listen to this on cassette tape over and over again. Thanks.

My most played album of all time. Genius. Long a fan before it dropped, but when it did, it was mind blowing. A masterpiece of fitted song, the second side of Abbey Road. Its only flaw was the initial American release included "Oh Yeah" - it didn't belong, ruined the flow of the work, there only for US sales. That horrible error was changed on the release/remasters years later.

Great song indeed! - I came to know them much later than I've known the group "UZEB" - not less avant-guard than Yello. I've made 12 years of Violin to satisfy my parents, but in the meantime I gradually went on to convert to musical composition. Along 10 years I was non-musicant, but recently I regained the inspiration for misical composition, and am active with it besides learning to play the piano as autodydact, using basic concept of modern digital- as well as analog- electronics and some applied mathematics.

Pedro Camacho, the former informer of the secret police, is still standing outside the club. Pretending to be blind, he watches the last plane to Miami disappearing in a fading purple sky. Now he knows he's been left behind.

I've only discovered this group - I'd heard the most famous couple of tunes they did back in the 80s but wasn't very impressed but in the last few weeks have started to hear the other stuff and it's amazing. This is probably my favourite one of what I've heard so far. So much more intelligent, imaginative than 99% of other artists.

"...Now he knows...He has been left behind..."Probably how most other musicians felt upon hearing Yello for the first time, all those years ago...
