From album 'Upstairs At Eric's' (1982). Written by Vince Clarke.

Electronics: Vince Clarke. Voice: Alison Moyet.

LYRICS:

Write me a letter a face in the hall

Hiding from someone afraid of the fall

And she's waiting for someone to take her back to where she came from

And she'll wait alone for hours she won't mind because there's someone

In the story she remembers she remembers in the letter

And the tears locked up inside her make her heart break open wider

Shuts her eyes and takes the picture from the wall

You get a thumbs up vote from me because I couldn't agree more with what you said about Yazoo. Oh yes, I simply love the music from the 80s and 90s, as I'm a big fan of Yazoo as well. I got all their albums, and Vince Clarke is a musical genius to my ears!! :D

Vince Clarke was the epitomy of what 80's music was. Erasure, my top 5 favorite groups, and Yazoo, are simply fantastic with their synth-beats and beautiful lyrics. This is probably Yazoo's best song, even though it is short, it is just a nearly perfect piece of music.
