My favourite track from Mummer and yes I love Andy singing "don't listen to me, I've always been poisoned by this industry" The final bit where he sings "Bye-Bye" always made me wonder if he was ready to quit as he was already shunning live work through stage fright/breakdown, whatever you want to call it! I love XTC and think these two guys wrote some of England's finest punk new wave post punk songs. me love u long time XTC!

I think The Futureheads based their entire sound round this song

I was fortunate enought to play drums in a band that covered this song as well as "Making Plans for Nigel." We had the music cold but I had to sing. Andy's job is safe. What an inspired musical legacy they created!

I could have directed a much better video than this. I would have had XTC playing this in real time with split screens like Pomplamoose did in their earlier videos. In the "they can fix you rabbits up" part would feature footage of record store, with big displays of all the music this song is dissing. When this came out, Michael Jackson must have been real popular, because I used to always see "Bad" as part of this sequence in my imagination. I love XTC, but most of their video's seemed lame - stupid lip-synching and trying to visualize the song's words way too much.

I think the Minutemen song "The Roar of the Masses Could Be Farts" Might be similar to this, Lyrically. And they were both written at about the same time.

So that's where this popvideo comes from. Fantastic. Brilliant band. When will they tour again ... in their wheelchairs? Who would care? With ideas like this.. and dance the night away. What fun!

Funk-Pop-A-Roll beats up my soul. Not my favorite song of XTC's, but one of the most memorable "bites" of all time.

Great '97 memory of "Upsy Daisy Collection", which also has this song on it. I got selected to go to Japan on the JET Programme and I bought that CD as a congratulations gift to myself. This was the song I played the most.
