What a joy it is to watch Wynton work that MFer out. He tries a big run twice, doesn't make it, the frustration is on his face, but he hits it big-time the third time. The crowd is going nuts because they watched & heard him working it out too, but he still walks away in frustration because it wasn't "perfect". Ah, but wasn't it though???

I wonder if Monk could have imagined when he wrote this in 1944, how important this composition would become. Every time Marsalis plays this, he does it differently, and every time it's freeking amazing.
