Wynn Stewart recorded "Long Black Limousine" in 1958, though this original version was not released until May 2000, when it appeared on the "Wishful Thinking" box set (Bear Family numberBCD 15886). Writer Vern Stovall released his own version in 1961 on Crest 1080. The number has been recorded by numerous country stars, including Glen Campbell (1962), Jody Miller (1968), Bobby Bare (60's), Rose Maddox (1962) and George Hamilton IV (60's).

The best voice in Country Music was undoubtedly Marty Robbins by a country mile. There wasn't any genre he couldn't dip into and the range of his voice was exceptional. I'm not saying George Jones or Jim Reeves weren't special, but Marty Robbins was extra special. I like Wynn Stewart very much, he certainly had a way with a song.

It's been said that George Jones and Gentleman Jim Reeves had the greatest voices in Country Music. I think that Wynn had one of the greatest voices. The more I hear from him, the more I like him. Great version of this song. My personal favorite though, is Hello, Little Rock.

WYNN SOUNDS REALLY GOOD. ELVIS PRESLEY ALSO HAD A GOOD VERSION BACK IN 1968.

That comment about George Jones is really off the mark. Wynn Stewart had something all of his very own and these records are a testament to this. Wonderful talent .

Robert, I have not found any evidence that shows my dad played at the Grand Ole Opry. Don't know about the Louisiana Hayride either. I think my dad's influences were much older than George Jones because they were close to the same age.

No disrespect but was your Pop a fan of George Jones? I hear a lot of George in him. George was always one of my favs so you gotta know I like your old man bud. Was he Grand Ole Opry or Louisiana Hayride?
