Also, I have a friend who says she loves Woody's songs but thinks his singing is awful. I tell her that she is entitled to being incorrect.

Yeah. My initial reaction to the statement that he was a liberal is first of all, "Well, actually he was more of a socialist," and second of all, "Who cares? He's Woody Guthrie." You don't have to agree with his politics to appreciate his musical craft.
