I loved this song ever since I was a kid. It's like the southern American version of a fairy tail, where knights try and rescue a princess and die in the process. I wonder if the guy singing the song makes it; or he ends up as one of the many rotting skeletons randomly spread across the mountain. Why is Clifton Clowers so possesive?  Did he lose his wife? It's ironic in that no one has seen his daughter and lived to tell about. She obviously has no dental and sanitary care up on the mountain, and probably has an all meat diet and wears animal skins and a burlap sack. So, why does everyone think that she is such a beauty? They might be shocked to find out otherwise. She also has no education. Women must be scarce in that area. The follow up song "I'm The Girl From Wolverton Mountain" is also great.
