Wolfstone. The brain child of David Foster who hailed from the 1970s legends the super group Yes. He was the Bass Guitarist of Yes and wrote many of there early hits. Between Dave's huge talent and connections in the music industry along with his wife who had a successful career in advertising they hand picked a group of fine Scottish musicians and formed the celtic rock band Wolfstone and put them firmly on the map. Come on guys, on your web site give Dave the recognition he deserves and let your fans know the real and fascinating truth about this great man and the formation of this great band.

It's taken me a while to get used to bagpipes enough to distinguish style and ability in a performer. It all sort of sounded the same to me. But, like all music (except pop), once you learn about it, you find the quality of it.Apparently this is actually called "Clueless", despite what the tag says.

Today, Robert the Bruce is seen by most Scots as the patriot hero of the Scottish people for his defeat of the Engish in battle. Be that as it may, he still had to overthrow the power of the Comyns to get there! For his murder of John "The Red" Comyn, which was a crime against the Roman Catholic faith, Robert I, was permanantly discommunicated from the church by the Pope.

Robert the Bruce was a member of another powerful land holding family. He had aspirations for the throne. The Comyns were distrustful of him however. It was a power struggle between the two families but the Comyns had no desire to rule Scotland, they simply didn't want the Bruce as King. John "The Red" Comyn supposedly grabbed the Bruce by the throat in an argument. The Bruce arranged to meet and work it out but he killed John instead. Robert I was King within two weeks of that.

Who was Robert the Bruce? I mean, he sounds like he was wealthy or royal.

After the rise of "the Bruce" historians began to paint a very negative picture of the Comyn family. Of course, they had no choice in order to avoid execution for treason against the new king. Luckily, enough factual information survived to tell a much more factual account of the Comyn's. They weren't saints, yet not the people "The Bruce" tried to depict them to be. Interesting fact, as the Bruce lay dying from leprosy, he said it was punishment for his murder of John "The Red" Comyn.

We're all Scots and the same. The Comyns were not so popular after Robert the Bruce. He all but destroyed our family name by murder. However, he couldn't erase us! We still have our heritage. No one person or clan is more important than any other in my opinion. The fact that we are all a part of Scotland is what is important. Stand proud! If your interested in knowing the extent of " the Comyn influence" in Scotland there are lots of great resources online.

Wow! Your clan is way more interesting than mine. Although, we're not a big clan like yours, and we're not as popular.

Just under the same dominate clan, meaning the Souter's have a traditional allegience to Clan Farquharson. When the clan system was at its peak, septs were under the leadership of a dominant clan. The septs were often dependent on the dominate clan for protection etc. The Comyn's were the most politically powerful family in Scotland until the 13th century. They built over 50 castles. Some stand today. Two were appointed "Guardians" of Scotland. Alexander and John "The Black" Comyn.

So, in that case, we're kind of related, but we're not related. What did they do to make them huge in the Middle Ages?

@GothiqueBloodAngel I'm Clan Comyn/Cumming, and Clan Souter / Farquharson, on my fathers side. 100% Irish on mom's side. I'm amazed that I can trace the family back 946 years on the Scottish side of the family. The Comyn family is very well documented and played a huge role in Scotland during the middle ages.

@GothiqueBloodAngel Ah yes, so proud to be Scottish. My Grandmothers family name "Sowder" or "Souter" in Scotland, is a sept of Clan Farquharson.
