That song was written by a cajun musician named Joe Werner, who sang it for years locally before Webb recorded it, and shortened it. It was quiet a long song as written. As I recall Webb wanted writer's credit, which that particular proud cajun was not williing to share. Everything turned out well though, as it was Webb's first hit and first #1 and it made Joe a lot of money.11 years ago
