Can you sing that well while reading the lyrics off the page? Didn't think so.

New Opry rules should read: Must be able to play and sing "Will the Circle be Unbroken", "I saw the light", "Wabash Cannonball", and "Mountain Dew" prior to consideration. These are some of the most covered songs in the History of the Opry, and always played in a improve session when a group of individual artist show up. You should be able to join in without hesitation or GET OUT!!!!!

Hillary Scott sounded awful. She is the one member of lady antebellum that can't sing. I really can't believe that they needed the lyrics. I have known this song since I was about 6 years old

The important thing is that they know it now. It puts me in mind of a video I saw of Arlo (and all-star friends) singing Worried Man Blues. He had to whisper the words to the singer of the next verse during the chorus. People used to make music on there own and go to a show to see good musicians perform. Now, music is about listening rather than making. New songs are what the audience is being sold, so pros don't have to learn the standards. :(

@mikerickson01 "a rare treat"? At least you put a nice spin on it. But I agree with you, I'm sure it won't be the last time we see young musicians knowing very little about the music that formed the styles they perform today.

@shuteye1 At least they know it now. Its a rare treat to see musicians of this stature perform a standard for the first time. I'll bet that it won't be the last.
