Electric Light Orchestra (often abbreviated ELO, on the first two albums The Electric Light Orchestra), was a British rock band formed in 1970. The band formed by Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne (former member of The Move) who shared the idea of a band that mixed rock music with classical music and symphony. On the first two albums, the group experimented freely with these elements and you got a hit single in England with "10538 Overture". But irregularities arose between Wood and Lynne. Wood left the group around 1972 to form Wizzard and Lynne took over as frontman. Jeff Lynne has written most of the music and lyrics for ELO, except for some articles that Roy Wood wrote before he left the group, as well as a cover of Chuck Berry's hit "Roll over Beethoven" in 1973. The group's fourth studio album Eldorado became a commercial breakthrough in the U.S., although it did not sell so well at home, and it was the first in which the entire album centered around a theme. From the fifth album Face the Music was released singles "Evil Woman" and "Strange Magic," which became hits, but the pursuit of a more commercial sound also became clearer as more years went by Roy Woods absence. It was in 1976 that the group's real international breakthrough came with the album A New World Record. This album launched the group's golden years in the late 1970s, with subsequent albums, Out of the Blue (double album) and Discovery all of which became bestsellers. On the latter album was a distinct influence of disco music, and there was toned even group string trios importance down. The album also featured the group's biggest international hit single " Wild West Hero " In 1988 Lynne with the final announcement that the group closed down. In 2000, Jeff Lynne used the group name to the album Zoom even if it was just he and Richard Tandy from 1970's set that was featured on the disc. A tour was also intended to be implemented, but Jeff Lynne was influenced by his friend George Harrison's illness and any tour never materialized.

Nice compilation overall, but I wouldn't really call Larry Hagman's "J.R. Ewing" a true "Wild West Hero" though...
