This is a great version, pure Van in his vocal prime. If the vocal tempo change and altered syncopation upsets you, I suggest you listen to something totally predictable, but that would like being frozen suspended, not like actual creative life. I do wonder why classic rock attracts some of the stiffest people on the planet as rabid fans, when it was all one big improv, with some happy accidents along the way. Fortunately Van got it right so much of the time, and still does.

I like hearing him live, don't get me wrong. The man is amazing. I think the issue is that his studio recordings are such classic legends now, that it throws you off when you listen to the song being done live and it doesn't match up with what you expected. Especially with the speed. Nothing wrong with it, artist prerogative and whatnot, which is a good thing, but that is probably what most people have issues with. Mr. Morrison is an amazing person and I wish more could make songs like him.

The reason is because he is a brilliant creative guy who would be so bored with playing the recorded version year after year that he just about has no choice but to change it up. Same goes with all the greats. Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bowie Cockburn, Neil young Of all of VM's many bands, the CSO may have been his most inspired powerful era.

It's not Rockpalast Live German TV, the writing at the start is in Dutch, it was on TV in Holland (The Netherlands) and it's Live at the Rainbow Theatre concert July 24th 1973 Van with the Caledonian Soul Orchestra - It's too late to stop now!

his live performances are kinda meh, seem a bit made up on the spot. That isn't to say they are bad. I just love his recorded album and the way he sang that. it's like when live he sings 1/2 to 1 sec too fast and throws off the sweet rythym of the song.
