Ah. one of my favorite Kinks songs ever. This is the song Buddy Holly would have sung if he were still alive in 1965. Simply beautiful.

This was definitely recorded before the Pink Floyd song. The Kinks inspired more musicians than people think. When Dave Gilmour was asked on a television interview if there was any song he hadn't written but wished he had written, he immediately said "Oh yes, "Waterloo Sunset" by the Kinks. Not the sort of song you immediately associate with Pink Floyd, but give them their due they all listened to each other's work. This album (Kontroversy) is my favourite Kinks album. Well worth getting.
