Wet Wet Wet - Wishing I Was Lucky LIVE

Live TV performance known as the 'whistle test' in 1987

I was living in a world of make believe

When my best friend wrote and told me

That there may be a job in the city

I was living in a world of make believe

When my best friend wrote and told me

That there may be a job in the city (And you never told me)

Hey

Now he would dream about another scheme

About another sordid hall of dreams

About a man who was king of industry

He would swear by his mouth almighty

He would buy the best

But never something new, yeah

And he never told me

Oh I like kicking in the gutter and a

Wishing I was lucky

Wishing I was lucky, wishing I was lucky

Oh, I like kicking in the gutter

Wishing I was lucky, I was wishing I was lucky

Oh

It's the only life I know

Lie, lie , lie is all you ever do

To make me wanna push on through

Sing cry, cry, cry,cry is all I ever do

To say that's how you really really wanna push on through

Oh I like kicking in the gutter and a

Wishing I was lucky

Wishing I was lucky, wishing I was lucky

Oh, I like kicking in the gutter

Wishing I was lucky, I was wishing I was lucky

Oh ah, living in the gutter

Wishing I was lucky, wishing I was lucky

C'mon

It's the only life I know

Listen

My best friend wrote and told me so

He says, that there may, hey, be a job in the city, yeah, yeah, oh

In the city

C'mon take it on up, take it on up.

Oh I like kicking in the gutter and a wishing I was lucky

Wishing I was lucky, wishing I was lucky

Oh I like kicking in the gutter, wishing I was lucky

I was wishing I was lucky

wishing I was

wishing I was

wishing I was

wishing I was

was

was

was

Lucky, yeah

Lucky, yeah

Lucky, yeah

Lucky, yeah

C'Mon

Thank you, but this isn't my site ! Just type in roddy76to86 and you should get there. I just do this as a sort of "hobby", and upload songs on impulse. But I think YouTube have "lost the plot", there is no way I've got over 5 million "views". Somebody has stuck an extra numeral in at some point. Never mind, I hope you find other songs that you like, from whoever's channel. And thank you to the uploader of this song.

I know that song. I own most of their albums; so I may be more than just a "mild" fan as I mentioned before. Looking at some of the videos you've uploaded, I can see that Wet Wet Wet isn't really in line with the groups you seem to like. To be honest, they are a guilty pleasure for me, though no one in the US really knows them. I'm actually a pretty big fan of post-punk, and I'm still working on exploring the discography of some of the bands you posted videos for on this site.

I'm afraid not, far too "ballady" for my taste. But all is not lost, check out "Sweet Little Mystery". I'm not that keen on it, but you may well like it.

I'm a mild fan of the group, though I agree that their songwriting was often weak, and in a bizarre way. It was like they tried to write smart, somewhat obscure lyrics but couldn't. They also lost some of the quirkiness that was displayed on their debut album as time went on, trading it in for more straightforward songs. Basically, they matured and got kind of boring; not the first or only group to do so. My second favorite song by them would be Sweet Surrender. You don't like that one?

This is the only song by Wet Wet Wet I like, But is it a cracker or what ? I have the same trouble with "Hue And Cry", two great songs and that was it. Then The Proclaimers, about 3 great songs. "Writer's block" I believe the expression is known as. They all had the right ingredients, but a lack of writing ability. Not that I could do any better you understand !

Are you talking about Love Is All Around? Their version of the song never really became big over here in the States, but I know it pretty much got played out in other parts of the world. By that point, I think they were starting to lose steam as far as coming up with good original material was concerned. I like they band, love several of their songs, but this is definitely the highlight of their career for me; it really is a brilliant song.

It's the ******* record companies. If they'd just let these bands do their own thing and not think of money all the time, a band like this could have churned out some great records like this one. But no, it has to be ballads. I can't remember the name of it (thank goodness), a massive success that makes me want to spew to this day.

I think this is their best song, but also like other songs by them. They got a bit boring and mundane as time went on, though.

Well they were hardly that. But they certainly "hit the fan" at their peak, if my memory serves me correctly.

This song is brilliant. Which perplexes me because all their other songs are crap.

It was called a "Whistle Test" because if you could whistle the tune of a song having only heard it the once, then the song would surely be a hit. It's true, and the theory works. That's really how the eurovision song contest operates. You only get to hear each song once, and the one that sticks in your mind will be the one you would vote for.... ...... Simplez
