Yea Rivers Cuomo is a huuuuuge Nirvana fan. He talks about it in interviews and it's even mentioned in lyrics from "Heart Songs" off the red album. I remember seeing an interview where Rivers was talking about Kurt's song writing style. He methodically broke down & tediously analyzed every single Nirvana song piece by piece trying to find trends in the song structure & figure out why Nirvana songs are so fucking awesome to eventually create the "formula" for writing great songs.

That's an impressive impression River and co. are doing. If you want to hear an original Nirvana/Pixies sounding song of theirs, check out Paper Face. It's interesting to hear. They changed their style a decent amount by the time their first CD came out.
