You can hear a little of his good friend Buddy Holly in there too.

If Roy and Waylon had sung this together that would've been great.

I'm glad you think so. I really like the harmonica in Waylon's too (I play harp), but Roy's still holds the title for me. I think they're both so different it's difficult to compare and objectively find a superior record. They're both great artists with great songs.

I went and looked up Roy Hamilton's version purely to listen to that note. It knocked my socks off. I still prefer Waylon's version, but I'll readily admit that that's probably because Waylon's version was the first one I heard.

"My name is Waylon Jennings. We're all from Nashville, Tennessee, and we play country music. We hope you like it. If you do, I want you to tell everybody you know how much you like it. If you don't like it don't say anything mean about it, because if you ever come to Nashville, we'll kick your ass."

I have found since listening to music on YouTube haters will find a way to hate. Even if its going to a site that they wouldn't normally go to and try to piss people off

Why waste your time listen to it if you don't like it

Why all the arguing? There are several great versions of this song. If you like one version or performer better than the other, that's the beauty of music having something for everyone. Roy , Waylon, Elvis all did a fine job. I like JD Crowe and the New South's version myself. Nobody is wrong, and everybody is right. That's the wonderful thing about music. It's the one pure and true thing in this world. Don't try to mess that up.

Waylon's is great, its a more country take on it, and I really like the minimalism of his vocal style. However, I have to agree with John F with the fact that Roy Hamilton's is by far superior. First for how incredible Roy's voice is, (during the last chorus of the song Roy does an amazing held note with heavy vibrato which is not contestable) and second for the fact that the original's composition (with the original backing singers) is simply not beatable.

Elvis sure knew Roy. Give a listen to Hamilton's "Don't Let Go", his version of It's only Make Believe, and The Dark End of The Street.
