I created this duet from the CD "Essential Elvis Vol 5, Rhythm And Country", and dialogue from Vegas plus "Waylon Live". http://www.elvispresleymusic.com.au/elvis_presley_1980_recording_sessions.html

The reason I picked Waylon over the thousands of other artists is because this is a Waylon song, they were both on RCA, and Waylon was asked after Elvis' death to overdub his vocals on the Elvis record. He declined so we never got to hear what was planned. I can see how it could be viewed as sacrilige but not for the same reason you seem to have.

This is next to sacrilege in my opinion. Any song is subject to be covered by any artist. good for them. Not cranking my tractor to hear Elvis " allegedly" kicking off a song for Waylon. Could think of a few thousand different artist to put Elvis with.

Anybody who says that that isn't Elvis Presley are either tone deaf or just deaf all together. That IS Elvis and I for one think you did a wonderful job putting this together. Thanks for the post!

Waylon's vocal was taken from the 2CD set "Waylon Live: The Expanded Edition". The performance is live on stage in 1974.

You are literally driving me nuts now sir. I never said Elvis asked Waylon. RCA and Felton Jarvis did...in 1980. I KNOW "You Asked Me To" was on Promised Land. It's ALSO on the remix album "Guitar Man". You know Elvis' record release history doesn't end in 1977. The quote from Waylon about the proposed electronic duet is in the link I posted if you would read it, and it's in Waylon's autobiography. What else do you want from me now?

I LOVE how all of these folks are saying this is not Elvis. It DEFINITELY is. My source I used is from "Rhythm and Country: Essential Elvis Vol 5". The dialogue is a comp from Vegas live Aug 1970. Because Elvis and Waylon sang them in two different keys, I had to bring Waylon down a half step and bring Elvis UP a half step, so they would match...C#. I guess I can put Elvis back where he was in the key of C so his voice isn't so high, but then Waylon's going to be down an ENTIRE step.

There DEFINITELY was an album by Elvis called "Guitar Man". It was released in 1981 obviously after he passed away. It's a remix album Felton Jarvis did. I'm sitting here staring at my vinyl copy in my hands right now. You're asking me where I got my info? It's common knowledge, plus it's talked about in Waylon's autobiography. I'm posting a link that supports my facts in the video description since you think for some reason I'm making this up. Can't put a link in a comment.

Nice try. I'd know Waylon anywhere-- and oh well, Elvis and the helium. Nice try and interesting experiment. It was a good reminder of the power of Elvis's voice.

I ain't gonna say this wrong, like other folks, but I like it, and you did a decent job.Hell, it would've been great to see these two together..even for a handshake at least

@richsumbitch Waylon recorded it first. Elvis recorded it 5 times. I think he must have liked it. Billy Joe Shaver wrote it... not bad for a good 'ol boy from Corsicana, Texas.

@tnx4life There was no other way to do it. They were cut in different keys. Slowing Waylon down 1/2 step and raising Elvis up 1/2 step made them the same key. I agree he sounds like he hit the helium on the verse especially. The chorus it doesn't bug me as bad but yes it does bug me. if you have another solution besides just not making the duet at all I'm all ears. I wish Waylon would've just not been stubborn and sang the damn thing in C with the Elvis track but he wouldn't do it.
