This wsa the B-side to the re-released version of Opportunities [lets make lots of money]. It's not a rare track. ...just a bloody brilliant track! To me, this IS the Pet Shop Boys. Absolute class. I love it just as much today as I did back in 1986. How good were they back then? Just look at what they put out on the B-sides: A man could get arrested; That's my impression; This!!, Paninaro, Jack the Lad. My God (that's not a song by the way) they were good back then. The soundtrack to my youth...Enjoy.

Think again - remember what we saidPromises - how we both forgetEven now I see it in your eyesWhen and why, and where was paradise?Something's been and goneWhen all is said and done; we were wrongWas that what it was?Was that what it was?Think again - remember what you saidYou'd never leave - if you did I wouldn't careI never dared to ring you up and ask you whyToo proud to beg or hear you crySomething's been and goneWhen all is said and done; we were wrongWas that what it was?Was that what it was?I don't need any more in my lifeDid you need something more in your life? Was that what it was?Was - that - what it was?Something's been and goneWhen all is said and done; we were wrongWas that what it was?Was that what it was?

Yet another underrated pet shop boys song.. yet very catchy and explosive. See how the song unfolds and evolves into a complete blast as it runs especially from 4.07.. It's a sheer dynamite!

The Pet Shop Boys and The Cure have something in common. Neither band makes throw-away b-sides. They are as solid if not more interesting than their a-side. And the PSB are certainly prolific writers. "Was That What It Was" would have fit perfectly between "Tonight is Forever" and "Violence" on the Please album.

Ah yes, the days when the Pets were fans of that Hi-NRG sound. When b-sides are this amazing, it says something about a band.

"Was that what it was?" - Yes, it was, and still is... a bloody excellent tune. I also agree!! All the best. [PSB maxi-fan since '85]
