Just magic! An amazing duet!

Mohammed's Radio: Written by Warren Zevon 1976 Zevon Music BMI

Everybody's restless and they've got no place to go

Someone's always trying to tell them

Something they already know

So their anger and resentment flow

But don't it make you want to rock and roll

All night long

Mohammed's Radio

I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful

On the radio, Mohammed's Radio

You know, the Sheriff's got his problems too

He will surely take them out on you

In walked the village idiot and his face was all aglow

He's been up all night listening to Mohammed's Radio

Don't it make you want to rock and roll

All night long

Mohammed's Radio

I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful

On the radio, Mohammed's Radio

Everybody's desperate trying to make ends meet

Work all day, still can't pay the price of gasoline and meat

Alas, their lives are incomplete

Don't it make you want to rock and roll

All night long Mohammed's Radio

I heard somebody singing sweet and soulful

On the radio, Mohammed's Radio

You've been up all night listening for his drum

Hoping that the righteous might just might just might just come

I heard the General whisper to his aide-de-camp

"Be watchful for Mohammed's lamp"

Don't it make you want to rock and roll

All night long Mohammed's Radio

#pop #protestsong An often misunderstood song. Zevon himself couldn’t remember the reason he wrote this song anymore and what it is all about. It all happened in the haze of drug induced urban life at that time. And that is what the song is about: the dullness of everyday urban life and the struggle to cope with it (*Work all day, still can't pay the price of gasoline and meat*).*Mohammed’s Radio* is a pirate radio people listen to to forget everyday life listening to it all night long (*Everybody's restless and they've got no place to go*, there is only Mohammed’s Radio). Making ends meet takes up all day, there is only the night for living. The name *Mohammed* is randomly chosen and has nothing to do with religion. *The Sheriff* represents the State and its meddling with the lives of the citizens. *You know, the Sheriff's got his problems too*, the Sheriff belongs to the masses too. *Mohammed’s lamp* is the wish of the people. *The General* is the army and thus the State, again. *Someone's always trying to tell them, Something they already know, So their anger and resentment flow* could be the politicians, the media and the things we tell each other according the news the politicians and media tells us.This song is clearly about the angst and desperation of the masses living through everyday live.Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks are singing the background vocals. When Zevon wrote this song at the home of his in laws of that time in Aspen, Colorado, Nicks and Buckingham were there too and they started singing harmony like it was a gospel.

where do these songs start and end. once you hear them it seems as if they have always been there, playing away, and then it's clear that they always will be. Warren sets the mood, tells the story, pours his soul out into the air. My thanks go to him as i inhale.

Ran across this on YouTube recently. I'm a big fan of Zevon's music and this is one of my favorites, but I didn't know he and Stevie Nicks had ever done a duet. She only sings on the chorus and it's subtle, but it really adds a lot.

Zevon was ahead of his time and only the enlightened saw anything more than ware wolves of London. I trust that this technology we are now viewing will preserve his amazing talent and gift for those who will appreciate in the future...And Stevie Nicks? I swear to God ...her voice was quiet but her presence was stunning..it was perfect. But please go back to 50 cent and Miley Cyrus..didnt mean to distract.

Where the notes hang still in the night, warming the soul, and lighting the night... can it truly be, that the icons of Americana are wafting away... while the dumbasses fill the radio waves with beat boxes and empty serenades... time marches by while like mutants lay hearts and souls beat to death waiting for judgement day?

Folks may try to classify WZ's tunes as those of a singer-songwriter, but he was (is) so very much MORE! Great!

Hey- where was the photo that appears at about 2:35 taken? Was that possibly shot at Stutzman's Guitar Center in Rochester, NY? Both the setting and those instruments ook REALLY familiar...

Great version of this classic WZ song ... I love their voices in harmony ... Stevie's voice is so distinctive, and Warren delivers a standout performance on lead vocals. Great post ... Thanks, Wayne
