From silky smooth sustain to full out country chicken-picken territory, the Wampler Ego Compressor is the most versatile compressor pedal on the market.

So the big question is: what does a compressor do? A compressor adds an element of control to your playing level -- it will bring the quieter parts up and the louder parts down. While an ordinary compressor pedal can give you an element of control, a great compressor will give you the "feel" that other average compressors lack.

A great tube amp when driven into its sweet spot will naturally compress. Many budget compressors give you the squash and squeeze of a driven amp, but more often than not you tend to lose most of your playing dynamics and expression. The Ego Compressor will give that element of squash and squeeze, but will also allow you to be able to control the effect so that your playing can shine through with that great feel.

When Brian designed this pedal, the word that kept coming back to him was "transparency". The Ego Compressor epitomizes everything a great compressor should be: flexible and transparent while keeping your tone intact.

One of the ways the Ego Compressor lets you have control over your tonal clarity is by the use of the "Blend" knob. The "Blend" knob is a dry mix, which sweeps between a fully effected signal to zero effect across the sweep of the pot. Your unaffected signal can be added back into your overall output. As little or as much as you want, the choice is yours.

The Ego Compressor can also be used as "an effect" rather than keeping the pedal constantly on. Using the Ego Compressor in this manner will fatten up your rhythms and bring some control to your solos. That little bit of extra sparkle will allow your guitar to sit better in the band mix.

The Wampler Ego Compressor is an effect that you probably didn't realize you needed, but once you have used once, cannot imagine living without.

Brian , can you clear this up for me regarding this compressor : turning the attack knob to the right means slow attack and to the left means fast attack ? Is this true for all versions of the ego compressor

The Db boost on the Ego is insane with the compression fully engaged. Anything past 9 o'clock is boost; what was he thinking? Make no mistake, this pedal can be quite intense.

Brian, when are you going to come out with this pedal with a midi control???   I recently purchased and LOVING the pedal, but I like different settings for different songs.  I use a midi controller and would be PERFECT to have midi control on this so I could set 3 or 4 settings and just have midi tell it which setting I want with one click of a button.  I'm new to midi but LOVING the control of it.  Time to step up the game on the Ego II Brian..... give us midi control and it goes from a home run to a  GRAND SLAM!

Love it! Quick question- would you always suggest running your drive before the ego? Or would it work with the ego first in the chain before dirt? Thanks!

Hi BrianI've watched a lot of demos of the ego now and I've decided I've got to get one. However, I've tried a couple of compressors in the past and never got them to a setting I've liked. The ego looks brilliantly tweakable, though. I'm a jazz guitarist and really want to set the pedal to bring to to the front fast legato passages and wondered what settings you'd recommend for this?

Hi, is there any difference in this version of the Ego vs the newer one that has 3 knobs on the top row and light on the bottom row?

Got the Ego Compressor two days ago, I don't know how I survived without a compressor for the last 10 years. Incredible pedal, thank you Brian!

Good demo, but if I may say ... it would have been great if you had played a solo with the distortion pedal on. I am looking into buying a compressor pedal mainly for lead guitar, to get those crazy dream forever-long solos ... any thoughts? Thanks!

I've recently been experimenting with compression, at low settings, after my gain pedals. I Like the articulation I can get out of chords at higher gain settings and it seems to take a bit of hair out of the gain pedal, but keeps it sustained, which I like. I also like the way the volume knob interacts with it. Wondering if you had any insight on this, I just can't seem to figure out if there might be another way to achieve this, as it seems to be an unorthodox way to run it. Thanks, love the podcasts!

After a long search, thanks for making the compressor that will never leave my board...

Even though I have the Suhr Koji (which I will never sell), I might get this pedal as well. There is nothing wrong with two comps that are set to do two different things! Don't believe me, ask them country artist! Lol

I've been thinking about getting one of these as an always-on type of effect to run in front of the rest of my rig - would that eliminate the need for a dedicated buffer?  And since I'm playing with distortion on 90% of the time do you think it would really make that much of a difference to my overall tone?

Best, most transparent compressor made. The blend knob makes this very nice. Have one on each board. Wampler is firing on all cylinders.
