If you weren't around then, you can't imagine how refreshing it was to walk into a dorm basement keg party and see a guy on stage who could play the hell out of the guitar like John. Sure, there's something to be said for raw, untrained punk guitar playing, but there's also something to be said for putting in the hard work to get technically skilled, and then using that skill to release the music from the depths of your soul.
