"Waiting for That Day" was a song performed and largely written by George Michael which was released on Epic Records in 1990 in the UK and on Columbia Records in 1991 in the US.

The song was the third US single from Michael's Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 album. "Waiting for That Day" peaked at #23 in the UK in October 1990 and was followed in the UK by three more singles from the album, all of which peaked slightly lower than that of its predecessor. In the US the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on 9 February 1991, appeared on the chart for five weeks, and peaked at #27.

Although Michael wrote the song alone, the chords and rhythm are very similar to The Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want". This title is included at the very end of Michael's song, and a co-writer credit was given to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

The song also contains samples from the song "Funky Drummer" by James Brown.

The song did not enjoy great chart success in the United States, becoming Michael's first single to miss the top 10. The single's B-side, "Mother's Pride" achieved some airplay success during the Gulf War.

This song title is also the title of the twelfth episode in the first season of ABC's Eli Stone.

LYRICS:

Now every day i see you in some other face

They crack a smile, talk a white

Try to take your place

My memory serves me far too well

I just sit here on this mountain thinking to myself

You're a fool boy

Why don't you go down

Find somebody

Find somebody else

My memory serves me far too well

It's not as though we just broke up

It's not as though it was yesterday

But somethng i just can't explain

Something in me needs this pain

I know i'll never see your face again

C'mon now

I've got to be strong now

Now everybody's talking about this new decade

Like you say the magic number

Then just say goodbye to

The stupid mistakes you made

Oh my memory serves me far too well

Don't you know that

The years will come and go

Some of us will change our lives

Some of us still have nothing to show

Nothing baby

But memories

And if these wounds

They are self inflicted

I don't really know

How my poor heart could have protected me

But if i have to carry this pain

If you will not share the blame

I deserve to see your face again

C'mon now

You don't have to be so strong now

Come back

Come back to me darling

I will make it worth your while

Come on back to your baby

I miss your kiss

I miss your smile

Seems to me the peace i search to find

Ain't gonna be mine unti! You say you will

Don't you keep me waiting for that day

I know

You hear these words that i say

You can't always get what you want. . .

I've always loved George's lyrics, seems like I can really relate to them and remember the people and places in my life at that time... "my memory serves me far too well"

I love this song. I don't care who wrote it...who owns it, who did or didn't do what to it...It's just beautiful.

A shameless Stones ripoff, he even gave Sir Mick and Keef co-credit so as to avoid legal hassles. Yet he also borrowed from the late James Brown's "Funky Drummer."
