From the album "Pericol de moarte". Founded in 1982, Voltaj proved to have a personality too strong for the communist regime of that time and was facing dificulties in getting their songs aired on the radio. In their early days Voltaj had a totally different musical style than today. Genres like hard rock, heavy metal and speed metal made the band famous in the early 90's, after the communist regime had fallen. The heavy metal album Pericol de moarte was released in 1996, but the band had already recorded a small number of songs in 1987, including the first speed metal song in romanian metal, "Alerg". The first line-up was the following: Horatiu Rad - bass, Nikki Dinescu - drums, Gabi Nacu - guitar, Cristi Minculescu - vocalist and Adrian Ilie - guitar. In 1986 the lineup was completely changed, with the exception of Adrian Ilie, who remained the guitar player. The band seemed to have a bumpy road, so the year of 1988 brings new changes: Gabi Constantin-guitar, Valeriu Ionescu-bass,Cristi Ilie-vocalist,Doru Istudor M.S.-drums and Cristi Luca-guitar. The band relesed 2 albums, Obsesii in 1988, Pericol de moarte in 1996. Today, the current Voltaj kept nothing of the old style, being a pop group and having released a number of albums and EPs with yet another completely different lineup.
