A long-standing live favourite in Villagers' shows, 'Cecelia' has finally been committed to tape. Indeed, more than a simple music video, it slowly took the shape of a short film by animator extraordinaire, Adrien Merigeau. (See: http://adrienmerigeau.com/). Adrien and Conor began the filmmaking process by discussing the song in all of its aspects. Then Adrien let loose.

I believe the lyrics are about mental illness, the twin statues represent Cecilia's different personalities and she destroys herself but it seems to them that outside sources caused her to break.9 years ago

i took the simplest rout and just took it literally. about 2 sisters, one was killed, and they found out it was the other sister who had done it all along. a friend of mine thinks that it was about sexual abuse as well. i saw a couple of comments on here saying they thought it was about 9/11. i like it when the artist never explains it. leaves the meaning of the song up to the listener. like real art :)11 years ago
