Vile - I Am Alive. From the album 'Metamorphosis'. Brutal Death Metal with a melodic edge. I have trouble categorizing this album because it's too atonal in parts to be considered melodic death metal but there is too much melody to make it a straightforward exercise in death metal brutality. Whatever it is, Vile's Metamorphosis is an interesting blend of styles that began to grow in popularity after Decrepit Birth's 'Diminishing Between Worlds'
The interlude in the middle of this song wasn't a great choice, but everything on either side kicks ass.

I do actually like the interlude: it shows that the band is able to maintain balance, able to keep the song under control. Also, the singing (which is even more accentuated by the silence of the interlude) is very clear. Unlike many other (brutal) death metal bands, the lyrics are actually to be understood by ear. I like this, the singer is very gifted in this regard.10 years ago
