As a matter of fact this scene wasn't a dream.This was the life he always wanted to live. However she reminded him about his nightmares, and he forced himself back into the nightmare. He lived his very own dream at this scene. When she says "red dress" etc etc, she is asking if he finally let go of his nightmares.At this stage he thinks he is dreaming, where in reality, he makes himself wake up to the nightmare. He lets Sophia go at his OWN WILL.He was living the reality, until he made the nightmare his reality.
