Van Morrison - (Straight to Your Heart) Like a Cannonball

From the Oct. 1971 release Tupelo Honey

Well you know sometimes it gets so hard

And everything don't seem to rhyme

I take a walk out in my backyard and go

Do do loo do do, do do loo do do

Waiting for the sun to shine

And you know sometimes it gets so painful

Just like talking to yourself

When everything don't seem to have no rhyme or reason we all go

Do do loo do do, do do loo do do

Waiting for the sun to shine

We move along

Keep singing our song

Straight to your heart like a cannonball

La la ti da, la la ti da...

Doo do loo do do.....

Waiting for the sun to shine

Well you know, everyday we hear it through the grapevine

That's why I'm so tired of hearing it through the grapevine anymore

Because you hear it through the grapevine

It's just a dirty rotten waste of time, we go

Do do loo do do

While waiting for the sun to shine

We move along

Keeping singing our song

Straight to your heart like a cannonball

La la ti da, la la ti da...

Doo do loo do do.....

We move along

Keep singing our song

Straight to your heart like a cannonball

Da da da di da la la di la, words his mother taught him when he was three no doubt. She was a great jazz singer before the war, by the time Van was 21 he had those kool jazz lyrics his mother taught him down pat and introduced them to us boomers in the 60's, 70's. 80's, 90's, and is still recording albums, the last great rock n roller of the 60's, we LOVE you VAN! Thank You sooo much!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't really matter what year this song was popular, all that matters is Van's great singing and expressions, what a hell of a musician he is!

Just a amazing musician. He released a county album out about 2008 or so, and here is a guy from Belfast that can sing and compose country just as if he was born in the U.S. hills, where the greatest country singers grew up. Josephs comment below "Belfast Cowboy" reminded me of my thoughts while listening to his country album of approx. 2008, this song is from his great 1971 LP of course.

I think this is one of Van M's hidden, yet to be fully discovered treasures. The guitar base line melody and flute are totally unique. The man is a genuine artist and he always attracts the best and brightest players.
