I remember buying this on vinyl, and playing it non-stop. This track, and Girl Gone Bad, just mesmerised me. The Van Halen brothers on this - drums and guitar - are off the scale... literally, this isn't even measurable with the latest scientific methods..There's a chemistry, a connectedness, a drive, that isn't like anything else.I first heard this in 1985, and 30 years later it still stops me dead

It's a real shame that the guys in the original band couldn't keep it together a little longer. I reckon they could have made some amazing songs. They had a real special chemistry. Roth jumped ship too early. ( I've seen him say in interview's that he now regret's it ) The other members of the band were seriously p*ssed off at him for leaving them. They were working on a new album ( that would eventually be 5150 ) Roth had sung demo's on some of the songs that ended up on 5150.Even though they all didn't get on, they were rich enough not to have to live in each other's pockets any more.

Ironic how this the last song of the classic era, and was supposed to be the opener on their first album. Just have a look at the 1977 demo of the song, and the sound that opens up Runnin with the Devil came from the end of that version of House of Pain.
