Valentina Lisitsa plays Philip Glass

The album brings together two artists with enormous followings: Valentina Lisitsa, with her dazzling artistry and hundreds of thousands of followers on YouTube; and Philip Glass, with his hugely popular minimalist piano music.

Here is Glass at his best – using the building blocks of minimalism to achieve a huge, inventive soundscape of musical richness and contrasts. Richly harmonic, this is a deeply evocative listening experience with revelatory performances from Lisitsa; a wonderful artist with exceptional musicality and a stunning technique.

An artist should have the right to speak!! Her concert to Toronto is the only concert I was planning to attend and it ended up getting cancelled... I don't get it!!!!

As usual glass is incredibly boring even when played by a master! Typical american crap! glass is probably the biggest musical charlatan in history!

great piece. shame on the TSO. Canadian PM Harper, instead of sending skilled diplomats to build a peace, he sends military personnel. Shameful warmongering, imo.

Beautiful playing... However, I wanted to share that I cannot bring myself to appreciate Philip Glass works such as this... I don't get it, what's so amazing about this piece? I can understand minimalism, but repetitive and trivial structure in both harmony and arrangement of it makes it sub-par to most Hollywood movie music (to my ear at least). It just seems bland and fails to impact me in any way.I really don't know. The music V. Lisitza plays usually is of the variety that I easily and wholeheartedly appreciate (and a lot!). However, with Philip Glass, I just don't get it. Is there a method to this madness? Please help me understand and appreciate this music.

Genius is a heavy thing to carry around; It sits, unmoving, in the hollow pits of your skullits weight crushing the fragile shell of your eyesand everything they see You shift its weight from limb to limbjuggling your fatiguebetween your many souls -- sometimes you’re a musicianyour fingers slay deadbeat stringsor spill your burden on smooth white keysyour larynx carves pathways for the howlsfrom the acid pits of your stomach sometimes you’re a dancerand you let its weight sway youlike a gyroscope unhingedat the balls of your dainty feet sometimes you’re a poetand there is nothing to console youits weight becomes your anviland you bend the words to rhymeyou bend the words to beauty But your tendons are all frayed nowYour poems are all wearyThe cold neon glow of equations is buta rundown stuttering signboardand genius isn’t getting any lighter its burden quietly growing like a rock in your coat pocketdragging you another inch deepinto the river
